SLASPA Confirms Incident at the Castries Seaport

Castries, Saint Lucia Thursday, April 11, 2019 - The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), can confirm an incident on board MV Baltis Klipper berthed at Castries Seaport at approximately 12:15 p.m., in which Mr. Wilson A. Joseph was fatally injured.

Mr. Wilson A. Joseph, a stevedore at the time contracted by Winfresh for banana loading was taken to the Victoria hospital via ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.

The matter is being reviewed by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and the Port Police Department, vessel and local agents are assisting with the investigations.

Seaport Operations were suspended immediately following the incident to ensure the safety of port users.

SLASPA is saddened by this incident as this is the first time in our 36 year history that such an incident has occurred at our ports. SLASPA extends sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Joseph.

We shall provide further updates about this incident as soon as it becomes available.
